Especially in spring and autumn, we like to head south. For us Ritten locals, Signat is a bit of the south... But it's not just the warmer temperatures that attract us to this beautiful village surrounded by vineyards; it's also the excellent cuisine.
The Signaterhof is known for its traditional, high-quality dishes served in a very beautiful setting.
Günther and Erika Lobiser took over the Signaterhof 27 years ago, and it didn't take long for word to spread about the excellent food there. Their son Maximilian now also helps out actively. Günther has always known how to refine good traditional dishes with new recipes and places great value on local products. These are also the reasons why the Signaterhof is among the excellent "Slow Food Restaurants" in South Tyrol and Italy.
Since 1998, the Signaterhof has been in the "Osterie" guide and received the "chiocciola" (the snail), the highest award, in 2001.
In September 2018, Günther and Erika Lobiser were invited to Turin and, together with six other South Tyrolean inns, were honored by the "Osterie d'Italia" committee of the international Slow Food movement Carlo Petrini.
"Osterie d'Italia" is one of the most important restaurant guides, just like "Michelin." There are three awards: one for wine, one for cheese, and the so-called "chiocciola."
Günther reports that the criteria for the award, in addition to the quality of the dishes, which should be prepared with regional products, also include the "care of the guest." The price-performance ratio must also be right. Furthermore, Günther mentions that he and his wife Erika always travel with the "Osterie" guide. "Through this restaurant guide, you come to places you would never find yourself." So, good food is also served with beautiful and idyllic landscapes.
And what do we read in the restaurant guide about the Signaterhof? "Immersi in una calda atmosfera tradizionale, gusterete una cucina che ha il pregio di essere particolarmente curata eppure semplice allo stesso tempo." Guests find a warm and traditional atmosphere with a refined and yet simple cuisine. This is probably exactly what a guest is looking for in Ritten and South Tyrol.
Actors like Heio von Stetten and Henning Baum ("Der letzte Bulle") are also among the guests of the Signaterhof.
Günther & Erika have also appeared on television shows. When the well-known RAI moderator, author, and chef Beppe Bigazzi was a guest at the Signaterhof, he persuaded the hosts to participate in "La prova del cuoco." On RAI 1, Günther then cooked spinach dumplings and char strudel with paprika sauerkraut and bacon on live television.
In 2018, they were asked, "Could you imagine participating in the ZDF show 'Stadt, Land, Lecker' in a cooking duel with a renowned star chef?" Günther was quite surprised when he received this phone call. The reason was probably that the Signaterhof is among the five best "Slow Food" establishments in South Tyrol and among the ten best in Italy. Günther then appeared on television with star chef Maria Groß, cooking his "Signaterhofpfandl."
Dining at the Signaterhof means: enjoying local and refined dishes served in a suitable, beautiful setting, either in the cozy parlor, the comfortable dining room, outdoors on the terrace, or in the delightful shade of a walnut tree...
