Ritten has been awarded the Climate Municipality "Silver" certification by the Agency for Energy South Tyrol – KlimaHaus and has also received the European Energy Award. These recognitions are based on a comprehensive assessment of the municipality's achievements in the areas of energy, mobility, resource conservation, and environmental awareness.
The evaluation takes into account a range of projects already implemented across the municipality. These include a district heating plant with combined heat and power generation fuelled by locally sourced biomass, the conversion of public street lighting to LED technology, the modernization of indoor lighting systems, and measures to improve the energy efficiency of municipal heating installations. The municipality's commitment is further strengthened by four photovoltaic systems installed on public buildings, contributing to the increased use of renewable energy.
Additional priorities include promoting a circular economy, encouraging the responsible use of resources, and working closely with Ritten Tourism. Through its GSTC-certified sustainability strategy, Ritten Tourism is also taking concrete steps towards the responsible and sustainable development of the destination.
The municipality of Ritten plays a central role in the realisation of major climate policy objectives at the concrete implementation level and actively involves the population in this process.
