The Ritten/Renon plateau is considered the birthplace of summer retreats and has always been a place of peace and relaxation above the rooftops of Bolzano/Bozen. Sigmund Freud spent the summer of 1911 here and described Ritten as “divinely beautiful and comfortable.” Today, the plateau captivates visitors with its extensive hiking areas in summer and its charming ski area in winter. Fresh mountain air, tranquility, nature, and culinary pleasures make Ritten an ideal year-round getaway.

Thanks to its proximity to the provincial capital of Bolzano, Ritten is easy to reach without a car: the Ritten cable car takes visitors to Soprabolzano in just 12 minutes, and from there South Tyrol’s only narrow-gauge railway continues on to Klobenstein/Collalbo—offering a truly special panoramic journey.

Among the most famous natural attractions are the Ritten Earth Pyramids, the tallest and most graceful in Europe. They can be admired in three locations: in Klobenstein between Lengmoos and Maria Himmelfahrt, near Oberbozen/Soprabolzano, and in the near Unterinn/Auna di Sotto. The Rittner Horn also offers breathtaking views: it is one of the most stunning panoramic points in the Alps, with sweeping vistas of the Dolomites in both summer and winter.
