18.1. Ice Rink Ritten

Ice stock sport and speed skating have a long tradition on the Ritten. Ice stock was already practiced the end of the nineteenth century on the Lake of Costalovara. Events as ice hockey, figure skating, speed skating, ice stock sport but also ski jumping on the lake filled the event calendar and enjoyed the spectators and the participants.

The new Ritten cable car

Transport links between Bozen and the Ritten have a long tradition. More than 100 years ago, the Bozen aristocracy travelled on the cog railway from the Waltherplatz in Bozen to the Ritten. This railway was replaced in 1966 by a cable car, which after 40 years of service no longer exists. In 2007 it was decided to build a new cable car, the first of its kind in Italy. The new system with two suspension cables and one traction cable, will be particularly useful for commuters.

Ritten Train

On the 13th August 1907, the first train made its way up to the high plateau. This is reason enough to celebrate for an entire year under the theme of the Ritten railway.
